  • Condition: The wear on this book is mainly to the covers. Light soiling on front and barely any soiling on rear. Rubbing to edges and corners, with exposure barely showing, and black tip on bottom front corner missing. No bumps to corner, merely a bit of rounding, but several small bumps to edges. Former owner's bookplate is on rear of front cover. Clean interior with no markings or soiling, except for page 119, which has a coffee drop spot along the bottom edge. Pages are in undamaged condition except for creasing to the top corners of circa page 90 to 134, most likely from dropping the book. Only small cracks to interior hinges, so binding remains tight and square. In decent condition for a 90+ year-old book.

    Description

A classic publication in anthropology, edited by a leading Southwest Indian scholar!
You are biding on a hardback copy of
American Indian Life: By Several of Its Students
edited by Elsie Clews Parsons. It was published in 1925 by The Viking Press, Inc., and it is a second printing (first was in 1922). This classic work is still in print. This large book measures 8.5 x 11.25-inches in size and contains 419 pages including full-page color and b&w plates by C. Grant LaFarge. Nicely bound with dark blue(leather appearing) cloth spine and corner tips, and rough cut fore-edge and bottom edge with smooth red-colored top edge that has fadded. This book is a delightful read to anyone interested in early American Indian life. Most of the entries are written by professional anthropologists who spent a considerable amount of time living among their subjects. Consequently, the articles contain a great deal of insight that is rarely found in most writings on American Indian cultures. See photos for contents.
