I just obtained a gigantic personal collection of Magic DVDs from a magician who has accumulated them over 2+ decades. And I already had bought a big wholesale close-out of DVDs from my supplier. So, I am up to my knees in DVDs! Literally! I need to find good homes for all the DVD's in this collection, so I will be listing them with little or no description.
But check out the photos of the DVD case blurbs, and do a little research online for price and content, and you can get some great deals on these DVDs. I have quickly checked that they load and play, but can't take the time to watch them all and give my opinion/review. (If I am familiar with the content or artist, I will say what I can.)
Please see postage hints at the end of the listing.
(Okay, I really like these very special DVDs, so I am going to have a long description!)
CLOSE-UP ARTISTRY vol 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5
THE WHOLE SET OF FIVE DVDs.
by Rene Lavand
-- these DVDs were released by Meir Yedid Magic in 2002 and 2004. Volumes 1 and 2 are re-releases of earlier footage of Lavand from the 1990's, originally produced by A-1 MultiMedia (I think). Because of Lavand's incredible repertoire, MY Magic shot three more volumes in 2004, to make a total of
FIVE DVDs in this set.
(As you might expect, vol 1 & 2 do not have a high production values as the other three DVDs where the footage was shot a decade later. But all the DVDs are important for serious cardworkers to study.)
Because Rene Lavand lost his right hand as a child, he has been forced to find ways to perform his magic with just one hand. And this has led him to create very efficient and economical handlings in his routines. Although he performs one-handed, his routines can be performed by two-handed magicians -- there is no requirement that you learn the many one-handed sleights that Lavand uses and teaches on these DVDs. But what you should learn from watching these DVDs is how to think about making every action in a magic routine as economical as possible.
For instance, I love the ATFUS move, and Braue Add-on sleight. I use them all the time. But watch Lavand as he asks a spectator to sign her name on the face of four aces. She does, and she puts them in a faceup pile on the table. Lavand holds the deck in his left hand -- he reaches down, picks up the faceup Aces, now turning his hand palm up so the Aces are facedown on top of the deck. He immediately deals the Aces into a line on the table. In this single fluid action, he accomplishes what we two-handed magicians need to use the (admittedly) illogical and complicated ATFUS or Braue move. A two handed magi would be well served to learn this Lavand sleight -- as you reach to take back the Sharpie, you use the other hand to pick up the Aces and deal them in a line. It is completely natural and takes one second.
Before I tell you to look at the DVD case photos for what is on this great set of DVDs, I will mention one other routine which is a highlight among so many great routines. (And no, it is not "It Can't be done any Slower", though that is a great one also....) His Homage to Larry Jennings immediately went into my working repertoire, and should be in the repertoires of all serious close-up workers. Four Aces are signed and lost into the deck. The magician reaches into his right coat pocket and produces one signed Ace. This Ace is cut back into the deck, and he reaches into his left coat pocket, and produces a different signed Ace. This is lost back into the deck, and the magician reaches into his right upper jacket pocket to bring out the third of four aces. This is cut into the deck, and (you guessed it), he reaches into his upper left jacket pocket to produce the final Ace. This is cut back into the deck.
So far, okay, Rod, what's the big deal about that.
Well... saying he will do it much more slowly, he hands the deck to the spectator. He then reaches into his right coat pocket and removes one card -- it is a signed Ace. His hands are clearly seen empty, yet he reaches into his left coat pocket and produces a second signed ace. Again, with completely empty hand, he reaches into his upper pocket to get a third ace, and then again with empty hand, reaches into the other upper pocket to produce the fourth Ace.
It is an amazing and ultra clean repeat of an-already-strong effect. And although Lavand does it all with just one-hand, if you use two hands, this effect is not particularly difficult at all. Homage to Jennings is worth the price of the DVD set!
Although Lavand performs and teaches in Spanish, the DVD's have real time translation into English -- this done by Tina Lennart on Vols 1 & 2, and by Joe Hernandez on vols 3, 4, and 5
See the photos of the back of the DVD cases for complete details on what you learn on the FIVE DVDs.
Retail on these DVDs is for each one. But I think if you have one, you will want all four, and so get them ALL together, with one reasonable shipping cost. And of course at a MUCH better price than per DVD when you buy five together.
CONDITION: new-old dealer inventory -- so these DVDs are still sealed in cellophane, Brand new, And of course, they are authentic L&L product -- no bootlegs sold here!!!!
Shipping costs hints:
USA ADDRESSES First DVD (singles) has postage of .95. But if you buy more that one, postage drops significantly on combined shipments. eBay checkout should calculate about .30 for each additional single DVD. If you buy a number of DVDs I will refund excess, since shipping cost goes down to about 50 cents per additional DVD after you get 5 or more. Best to put a bunch in your cart, and
use the Request Total from Seller option
, I will invoice you at the proper shipping cost.
NON - USA ADDRESSES -- shipping rate for one DVD is as posted. A second DVD pushes the package weight into "2nd tier" international postage. However, that 2nd tier postage can cover up to SEVEN DVD's in the package for the same rate as two. So if you need me to ship to a non-USA address, and you want more than one DVD, you may want to find seven you like!
