    This is an old/early customer charge plate tag  from Gimbel Brothers Department Store
    -- the tag is very ornate and measures about  1-3/16" by 7/8".  The back is blank.
    Gimbel's was an iconic  American department store for 100 years beginning in 1887.  The company is well known for the Gimbels Thanksgiving Day Parade, the oldest parade in the country. Gimbels was also once the largest department store chain in the USA.  In 1894, Gimbel became established in Philadelphia and by 1910 opened another branch in New York City.
    With its arrival in NYC, Gimbel became the primary rival to the leading competitive retailer, Macy's,
