Vintage metal Charga-Plate Credit Token - Providence, RI with the sleeve 1950s

Here for your consideration is this mid-century “Charga-Plate” an early credit card used to purchase merchandise on credit.  This particular charga-plate card was developed for use with the Providence Charga-Plate Associates where the customer could use the card to charge items in any stores in Providence that was affiliated with the Providence Associates. Similar to a Visa card used today. The card is a metal plate with the customers name and address was embossed with raised lettering so when the shop keeper ran the card through their machine the customers name and information would be imprinted on the store’s invoice receipt. This was convenient where the customer could make credit purchases in several stores using the same plate. The charga-plate token was made of aluminum stored in a faux leather plastic sleeve. and it measures approximately 1 ¼ inch ne 2 ½ inches. The reverse of the plate is a encased cardboard card where the customer can sigh their name for proof for purchase. The card is identified and affiliated the Providence Charga-plate associates and the card is protected by Colbert’s Detective Agency. The sleeve and card is in good condition and will be a nice addition to your credit card collection. Here is your opportunity to make this unique card you own.
